Rampart Industrial Area Constructed Wetland Design and Monitoring
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Client: Al-Terra Engineering Ltd; City of Edmonton
Spencer Environmental served as environmental consultant for this long-term industrial area development, which included design, construction and monitoring of a high-performance constructed stormwater wetland, conservation and enhancement of nearby natural wetlands. In support of the first development phase, our firm assisted with constructed wetland design, obtained several Water Act approvals, negotiated with Public Lands, obtained approval for a constructed wetland from Department of National Defence, developed a dual-purpose wetland performance monitoring program, provided construction monitoring services and monitored post-construction wetland performance and bird use for five years. The project also involved advising on ecological connectivity and designing wildlife culverts.

In support of proposed country residential subdivisions, Spencer Environmental conducts wetland assessments in compliance with the Alberta Wetland Policy and all relevant wetland directives. Our assessments support land purchase due diligence, assist with planning decision-making, and identify potential impacts based on proposed development concepts. Water Act approvals for many different projects have been successfully secured.
